Thank You
Planning for after treatment
Added Nov 15, 2012Just a quick note to share that my Bone Marrow biopsy done by Dr. Ansari came back benign, which you can imagine was a great relief. However it does not explain what is going on with my blood. Dr. Ansari and I talked and are going to continue monitoring this situation with my Primary Doctor in Michigan taking the lead as she has been doing. …

I'm in remission
Planning for after treatment
Added Jun 14, 2011I’m not sure what to do right now. I’ve put all my energy into my treatments. I have been very surprised that the treatments didn’t make me sick. I guess that they have figured out how to treat us so that chemo doesn’t tear up our bodies like it used to.
I’ll will be going for blood tests PET scans for the rest of my life. My Dr. said that this…3 people like this. Like

No matter where you are in your cancer experience, if who you know yourself to be and love is alive and present, then you too are a survivor.
Return to Work
Planning for after treatment
Added Dec 26, 2010I’m amazed at what has happened since March 27, 2007, the day I was diagnosed. It has been a week short of 35-months since I was diagnosed. And May 11, 2007 was the last day I worked before my treatment began which means it’s been 33-months since I last worked.
So, when I was offered a position managing a couple senior communities with my for…

Something that I hadn't given much thought.
Planning for after treatment
Added Apr 30, 2010You know I hadn’t given that idea much thought, before treatment or even during. My main focus was just getting through the treatment at hand. Even now, after treatment, I still don’t think I’ve planned anything. I basically go for check-ups every 4 months with my dermatologist and oncologist. Of course, I also periodically check my lymph no…

After finishing treatments
Planning for after treatment
Added Feb 14, 2010I remember coming home from treatments and feeling like I was experiencing hell on earth. I felt terrible. I remember going to my bedroom, my personal sanctuary, with our family dog Capri and spreading all of the maps of Hawaii all over my bedroom floor. My parents asked me what I’d like to do once I got through radiation therapy. I said tha…

Planning for after treatment
Planning for after treatment
Added Feb 10, 2010Fourteen months after treatment, this is the first time I’ve seen or heard that sentence. “Planning for after treatment?” Not so much. My regimen was pretty intense. It would seem, after the fact, that my team was more concerned with making sure I got through the gauntlet, not wanting to distract me or overburden me with thoughts and worries…

Moving Forward After Treatment
Planning for after treatment
Added Jan 19, 2010I attended a really good session last week put on by the local Breast Cancer Centre of Hope, led by a nurse and a psychologist. One of the best things is just being with other people at the same stage as you – finished treatment, still feeling the side effects, wondering about getting back to a ‘normal’ life.
I’ll summarize it here, from my p…

The Mistake!
Planning for after treatment
Updated Jan 17, 2010After treatment I never dreamed that I would be hearing these words. I’m sorry there was a mistake made! A mistake? What kind of mistake. When they removed my breast it was supposed to have been preserved for the pathologist to exam to determine staging grade. It was not someone forgot about it. My breast was left out in the open container for a…

Camp and Life
Planning for after treatment
Added Jan 12, 2010By the time I reach 25, I will have survived cancer at least twice. There is still some time until then, so we’ll just count the times I can confirm. After the second diagnosis, you have to think a lot about what you are going to do after treatment. Cancer can’t run your life forever. I’ve met a lot of people who let the cancer rule who they are…
